July 25, 2019
Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta (WSWA) is pleased to announce Suzanne Velcic as the organization’s Executive Director. Suzanne will lead WSWA in support of all towed water sports initiatives in Alberta.
“All of us at Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta are thrilled to welcome Suzanne Velcic to the position of Executive Director”, said Chuck Kraus, President of WSWA. “Suzanne’s current background with Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta makes her well positioned to lead WSWA. Suzanne has worked at WSWA now for three years in the role of Communications and Events, giving her exposure to WSWA’s membership, vision, and programming across the towed water sports spectrum, from grassroots to competitive, and from classic skiing to barefoot, wake, surf, hydrofoil, and adaptive.”
With many years involved in water skiing, Suzanne has extensive understanding of the sport. Previously she has been on the organizing committees for the 2009 IWWF World Water Ski Championships, three MasterCraft Pro Water Ski Events, 4 Water Ski Nationals and many other tournaments. Suzanne is a Level 3 Calculator, a PanAm Slalom Judge, and a water ski competitor. She was the Chairperson of Water Ski & Wakeboard Canada’s National Skills Development Program. She worked with a team that developed the Rip N Ride program and implemented it nationally through the Provincial Sports Organizations. Suzanne has many years’ experience and passion in the sport and will be able to immediately leverage this experience for the benefit of WSWA and its membership.
“I am particularly excited about this position of Executive Director at Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta because this role allows me to work across the entire spectrum of a sports association, from grassroot to high performance and every aspect of association governance in between. It is an opportunity I am very excited to get started”, Velcic said.
About Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta:
Established 1967, Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta’s mission is to promote the participation and excellence in all aspects of towed water sports in Alberta. This is achieved through introduction of the sport to beginners; development of skill level in competition and officiating and providing support and encouragement to towed water sports enthusiasts and their families at local, provincial, national and international levels. WSWA supports classic 3 event waterskiing, including slalom, trick and jump, wakeboard, wakesurf and hydrofoil. Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta is also involved in an exciting new indoor pool water ski program in Fort McMurray at the Syncrude Aquatic Centre. The Syncrude Indoor Water Ski Program will introduce new participants to towed watersports in a safe and barrier-free environment using an indoor winch for ski and ride programs. This will be the first indoor water ski program in North America. WSWA celebrated it’s 50th year as an association in June 2017.
