In it's 50th year, WSWA would like to celebrate the past year's accomplishments of its athletes. WSWA promotes all towed water sports from 3 event classic water skiing, which includes, slalom, trick and jump, wakeboard, wakesurf and hydrofoil. WSWA promotes all levels of towed water sports from grassroots, development and competitive. WSWA has athletes from beginner to wake and water ski teams to world champions and world record holders.
The first recognition of our athletes is Ryan Dodd, pro water ski jumper. Ryan Dodd is from Olds, Alberta. 2017 proved to be a phenomenal year for Ryan Dodd. Ryan had many wins in many jump events this past season. He started the year winning the Moomba Night Jump event in Australia in March with a best jump of 215 feet/65.5m. He continued his wins by taking the title at the Masters Jump event in May with a huge jump that set a Canadian Jump Record with a leap of 243 feet/74.1m. On Canada's 150 Year Celebration, Ryan Dodd had the best jump of his life, setting a NEW WORLD JUMP RECORD with an incredible jump of 254 feet/77.4m! He successes continued from there winning the Stokes ProAm event in England (236 feet/71.9m) and the Vladimir Filin Memorial Event in Moscow in August (75.4m). The Finale of the season for Ryan was achieving the World Jump Champion Title (224 feet/68.4m) at the World Water Ski Championships in Paris, France in September. This is what dreams are made of! Hard work, commitment, dedication and passion makes a champion. Congratulations Ryan Dodd on your amazing year!
