WATER SKI TEAMS SELECTION

SELECTION PROCESS NOW CLOSED FOR 2018

Objectives

JUNIOR TEAM:

To develop competitive, three-event athletes for participation at Westerns and Nationals. 

 

DEVELOPMENT TEAM:

To provide a fun and developmental training framework for athletes that have the skill, drive, potential, and aspiration to be on the Junior Team.

Selection Process

In January of each year athletes (U18 as of January 1) will be invited to join the Junior or Development Team based on their performance from the previous season. Once published, Water Ski Canada National rankings will be used to determine the national benchmark score for each division.

An athlete’s two score average for each event will be divided by the divisional National benchmark score for each event. The Athlete’s two best scores from Slalom, Trick, Jump will be combined to give an Overall Calculated Score.The Athlete’s Overall Calculated Score will be used for team selection.

Structure

Maximum Junior Team Size: 8 Athletes*

 

Junior Team Composition: 6 spots will be awarded to the individual’s with the 6 highest overall calculated scores.  Team spots #7 and #8 (Wild Card Spots) will be filled by 2 skiers that have the highest national ranking percentage in any event.  Wild Card Spots will be used to recognize any exceptional single event skier score. 

 

Maximum Development Team Size: 10 Athletes*

*Water Ski and Wakeboard Alberta is not obligated to fill all available spots on either team.  The final size of the team will be left up to the discretion of the selection committee.
